Trade Union Facility Time

By law, trade union representatives are entitled to reasonable paid time off from their regular jobs to perform union duties and undergo relevant training. Trade union members and representatives may also request unpaid time off to participate in various activities. Together, these provisions are referred to as facility time. Schools are required to publish information on their websites regarding the amount of facility time taken each year by staff who are union officials. We must answer the following questions and requests for information for each relevant period using the form indicated in Schedule 2 of the Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017. The “relevant period” refers to the timeframe from April 1 to March 31 of the preceding year, during which data is collected and published.
